Expecting this to be a naturalist themed novel like Porter's other books, I was surprised and disappointed to find that it is written in the form of a poem, of sorts. However, I was more surprised to find that I enjoyed it (I am not a poetry aficionado). This is the story of a young Indian maid who is in love with a young Indian brave. She declares her love to him and he to her - or so she thinks. Enter a beautiful visitor and the brave is soon smitten by her. Our Indian maid is really ticked off by the brave's fickleness, and sets about getting revenge by devising ways to kill her competition. I won't spoil the story for you by relating anything more. This was an enjoyable and quick read and I did not encounter any unpleasant issues with the Kindle edition of this story.Product details

The Fire Bird eBook Gene StrattonPorter Lee Thayer Gordon Grant Reviews
Didn't care for this book. Just personal preference.
this one was not for me. I relish her prose but this is mainly poetry and poetry and I have not gotten along since I had to memorize Hiawatha in the 4th grade. Perhaps you will like this. I sure hope you do!
Not my favorite gsp but a sweet tale. Short and gently written is gsp style.
what we wanted
Beautifully written. The narrative soars beyond the mundane. The imagery exploded on my brain and gave me a warm feeling. I just may read it again soon.
This narrative poem about a young Native American woman who attempts to kill the rival for her love's affections will probably be of interest to those who enjoy stories about Native American life. Although, to be honest, I have no idea how realistic it is. Although I was a bit taken aback when I first realized it was a poem, I wound up getting sucked into the story and wanting to know what happened next.
I'll admit that when I first started to read, "The Fire Bird", I skimmed the first several pages not realizing the whole book is poetry and wanted to get to, "the good part". The part where the story begins. I'm not a lover of poetry. When I realized that the whole book is poetry, I went back to the beginning and figured I'd give it a go since I do love everything else I've read by Porter. I'm so glad I did! The poem is easily read and understood and the message in the poem is quite clear. It's a quick short read and well worth it.
